Flash photolysis of NO coupled with time resolved detection of O via resonance fluorescence has been used to obtain rate constants for the reaction O+NO+M→k1NO2+M at temperatures from 217–500 K in four different inert gases. The measured rate constants in Arrhenius form are k1,He= (10.8±1.2) ×10−33 exp(1040±60/1.987T), k1,Ne= (9.33±1.10) ×10−33 exp(1030±60/1.987T), k1,Ar= (9.01±1.16) ×10−33 exp(1180±70/1.987T), and k1,Kr= (9.52±1.10) ×10−33 exp(1140±70/1.987T) in units of cm6 molecule−2 sec−1. These results are discussed and compared with earlier work.
