Abstract In the Netherlands the pool and orifice fishway is mainly intended for fresh water fish with a burst velocity u ≤ 1.00 m/s and which migrates in minor rivers and streams. Here we present the results of a scale model study, which focuses on the rating curve of the fishway and the flow velocity distribution in the orifices. The result of the investigation is a standard hydraulic design of the Dutch pool and orifice fishway for a design discharge 0.050 < Q < 0.150 m3/s.
