Elastic Scattering of 40-Mev Protons by Deuterons

Abstract

Measurements of the differential cross section for elastic scattering of 40-Mev protons by deuterons over the range of proton laboratory angles from 4\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} to 164\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} are reported. The results for angles greater than 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} were obtained by observing the recoil deuterons emitted in the forward direction. The cross section exhibits a sharp minimum at 7\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} and a broad minimum at approximately 110\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}.
