The wavelength dependences of the photoionization cross sections of zinc atoms have been measured with a modulated atomic beam and pulsed, dispersed vacuum-ultraviolet radiation. The photoions were mass analyzed, counted, and digitally demodulated. Apparatus and technique are described, and results are presented for singly charged ions at wavelengths between 247 and 1243 Å.
