Abstract

The fundamental rotation-vibration band of nitric oxide has been measured with the high dispersion of an echellette grating spectrometer, and has been subjected to a complete analysis. The resulting constants have been carefully combined with those derived from the existing electronic data to yield the following molecular constants for the normal state of the molecule: ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{e}=1904.03(^{2}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{\frac{1}{2}})$, $1903.68 (^{2}\ensuremath{\Pi}_{\frac{3}{2}}) {\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{e}{x}_{e}=13.97 {\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{e}{y}_{e}=\ensuremath{-}1.20\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, ${B}_{e}=1.7046 {\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$, ${I}_{e}=16.423\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}40} g {\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$, ${r}_{e}=1.1508\mathrm{A}$.
