Cyclical Ovarian Function in Women with Congenital Absence of the Uterus and Vagina

Abstract

Ovarian function was assessed in two women with congenital absence of the uterus, Fallopian tubes and vagina, by the estimation of total estrogens, pregnanediol, luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone in urine every day for 61 and 88 days, respectively. The patterns of hormonal excretion were within normal limits with cycle lengths varying from 30 to 34 days. These findings confirm that normal cyclical ovarian activity can occur in the absence of the uterus or other Mullerian duct tissue in women.
