The Mossbauer spectra of 57Fe, embedded as a dilute impurity in 32 different metallic host lattices, have been studied. Most of the absorption spectra consist of a single line, but in a few cases hyperfine splittings have also been observed. The shifts in the energy of the 14 4 keV gamma ray, when one host element is substituted by another, have been measured and appear to be related to the electronic structure of the host. A comprehensive list of earlier data is also given.
