We report new measurements of the asymmetry in the deep-inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons by longitudinally polarized protons in the kinematic range $2<~\ensuremath{\omega}<~10$, $1<~{Q}^{2}<~4$ ${(\mathrm{G}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/\mathit{c})}^{2}$, and $2<~W<~4$ GeV. We compare our results with the Bjorken sum rule and with several theoretical models of the internal spin structure of the proton.
