The infrared fluorescence risetimes of the (ν1, ν4) and ν2 modes of CH3Cl have been measured after pumping the ν6 mode with a Q-switched CO2 laser. The rates of rise were found to be 214 ± 60 msec−1 · torr−1 for (ν1, ν4) and 160 ± 45 msec−1 · torr−1 for ν2. Possible filling pathways for these modes are discussed, and infrared fluorescence rates for all modes in CH3Cl are summarized. The results are compared with similar intermode vibrational transfer rates in CH3F.
