With three legs to stand on: Just as phages stand on cells with six legs available for gene delivery, ZnO tetrapodal nanostructures can also stand on cells with three needle-shaped legs available for DNA delivery (see figure). With their tips on the cell surfaces, three of the four legs can stand obliquely, so that the possibility of internalization of tips within the cells is increased.
