Theory of the inverted Lamb dip with a Gaussian beam

Abstract

A theoretical calculation of one round trip of a Gaussian beam propagating in an absorbing gaseous medium is carried out. The inverted Lamb dip is found to be distorted in shape. Shifts of the center frequency are numerically obtained for several values of the beam parameters.
