ABSTRACT IT is reported in the literature that soil surface sealing is directly related to the kinetic energy/area (KE/a) of water droplets impacting the soil surface. An equation was derived that relates KE/a to application depth (ex-posure time X application rate) and the vertical velocity at impact of a characteristic droplet size. A sensitivity analysis was performed on this equation to determine the relative importance of the variables involved in determin-ing KE/a.
