The association of stressful life events with stroke was examined in a prospective controlled study which included 84 consecutive stroke patients and a comparison group of 84 control cases. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the life events score between the stroke group and the control group (p = 0.00003). There was no significant correlation between the life events score and the severity of stroke (r = 0.15). The life events score between stroke patients with cardiovascular problems (47.6%) and those without showed no significant difference.
