ABSTRACT EQUATIONS are presented that provide an accurate means of predicting respiration rate, tidal volume, and respiratory vapor loss, in the Holstein cow, as a func-tion of ambient temperature and relative humidity. The equations, assuming the expired air is saturated at some temperature below body temperature, provide a more ac-curate means of predicting respiratory vapor loss than has been possible by assuming that the expired air is saturated and at body temperature.
