PtII-nucleobase complexes of the type trans-[PtCl(NH3)2(L-N7)]n+ are prepared by an efficient procedure. Kinetics for the Cl− hydrolysis studied by 195Pt NMR and HPLC analysis show that in basic aqueous solution the incoming water molecule displaces the Cl− ligand more readily in the depicted monocationic 9-methyladenine complex (1) than in the neutral 9-methylhypoxanthine complex (2).
