Overlapping core to valence and core to Rydberg transitions and resonances in the XUV spectra of SiF<sub>4</sub>

By comparison of the Si 2p absorption spectra of molecular and solid SiF4 the local character of the resonances above threshold and the valence or Rydberg character of the lines at threshold have been established. After checking the reliability of the Z+1 model on the core spectra of SF6, an assignment of the SiF4 lines, based on SCF calculations for the Z+1 analogue PF4+, is presented which is consistent with the experimental data.
