Nanoparticle-Based Photosensitizers under CW Infrared Excitation

Abstract

By using photon upconverting nanoparticles, we show that singlet oxygen can be generated under continuous wave infrared excitation. We report the synthesis and characterization of one of such nanoparticles, which hold promise as a new type of versatile drugs for photodynamic therapy.
