Abstract

Ni+ ions, stabilized on silica following reduction of Ni2+ in hydrogen at 170 °C, have been characterised by e.s.r. spectroscopy and shown to react with carbon monoxide giving carbonyl species; the crystal fields of Ni+ on silica and in the NiCaX zeolite are similar.
