Abstract

A method is described in which a spherical sample is rotated in a transverse magnetic field while measurements are made of the torque produced by currents induced in the sample. Exact expressions are derived for the torque in terms of the magnetoconductivity tensor, both for a sphere and for an ellipsoid. The method has been used on large strain-free crystals of potassium, and an example of the results obtained is given.
