Abstract Using pulse X‐ray and synchotron radiation, the spectral and kinetic characteristics of a new type of fundamental luminescence in RbF, CsF, CsCl, and CsBr crystals are analyzed. On the basis of the experimental results obtained, a generalized consideration of the mechanism of this type of luminescence is carried out in alkali‐halide crystals, taking into account the known spectra of photoelectron emission, absorption spectra, and band structure calculations.
