Optogenetic retinal prosthesis - The optoelectronic stimulation of photosensitized retinal neurons could prove to have many advantages over present electronic approaches. In this paper, we explore the latest results from a compact CMOS-Gallium Nitride optoelectronic stimulator which has sufficient brightness to stimulate neurons photosensitized with channelrhodopsin. We explore the efficiency and scalability to large area arrays, and impact on retinal prosthesis.
