The total neutron cross section of manganese has been measured from 0.01 eV to about 50 keV and a multilevel analysis of the data from 0.01 eV to 15 keV has been carried out. This analysis shows that the strength function is $\frac{{{\overline{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}}_{n}}^{0}}{D}={{9.5}_{\ensuremath{-}2.5}}^{+6.5}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ and that the potential-scattering amplitude for the $J=3$ series of levels is substantially less than 4 F.
