We have succeeded in the fabrication of Yb3+ : Y3Al5O12 ceramics by the nanocrystalline technology and a vacuum sintering method. The first diode end-pumped ceramic laser with this novel solid-state material was demonstrated. The 345-mW cw output power was obtained with the slope efficiency of 26%.
