Abstract Emission and excitation spectra of CaO, CaS, CaSe, and MgS phosphors activated with Pb 2+ ions are measured at 300, 80, and 4.2 K. For these phosphors two emission bands appear corresponding to the transitions 3 T 1U , 3 A 1u → 1 A 1g . The zero‐phonon line on the 3 A 1u → 1 A 1g emission band is markedly enhanced by the external magnetic field. The magnetic field dependence of the intensity of the zero‐phonon line is well explained by the model containing the magnetic electronphonon interaction with the τ 1g vibrational mode.
