The University of Illinois Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets addresses the com- putational simulation of solid propellant rockets from first principles. Using a highly inte- grated structure/fluid/combustion interaction code, Center research faculty and staff have simulated a number of commercial and military solid propellant vehicles. This paper over- views the CSAR approach and recent successes. Other papers in this session will present de- sign details and results of subscale and full-scale rocket motor simulations.
