Abstract The purpose of this study was to identify job satisfaction factors in the Bedouin Arab elementary schools in the Negev and their relationships to various demographic variables. The study was conducted in 1989 and was based on a random sample of teachers from all of the Bedouin elementary schools. Job satisfaction was measured by the questionnaire developed by Wanous and Lawler (1972). Two significant job satisfaction factors emerged from factor analysis: teachers' satisfaction with work itself and teachers' satisfaction of social needs. The findings further revealed that (a) the higher the proportion of female teachers, the higher the level of satisfaction with work itself; (b) the higher the educational level of teachers, the higher the level of satisfaction with work itself; and (c) the higher the proportion of Bedouin teachers, the higher the satisfaction with work itself and social needs.
