The optical absorption of K 2 NiF 4 single crystal has been studied and the characteristic spectrum of Ni 2+ in octahedral field of F - ligands is observed. The bands are assigned to various excited levels of Ni 2+ in O h symmetry and values of the crystal field parameters B, C and Dq are found to be 965, 4135 and 755 cm -1 respectively.
