Abstract

A crystal spectrometer is used to study foil-excited fluorine beam x rays. The transitions from $2^{1}P$ and $2^{3}P$ to $1^{1}S_{0}$ He-like fluorine states and the transitions from $^{2}P^{\ensuremath{\circ}}(1)$ and $^{4}P^{\ensuremath{\circ}}(1)$ to $1^{2}S_{\frac{1}{2}}$ Li-like fluorine states are observed. Lifetimes of 0.537 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.02 and 2.000 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.025 nsec are measured and identified with the $2^{3}P_{1}$ and either the $2^{4}{P}_{\frac{3}{2}}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}(1)$ or $2^{4}{P}_{\frac{1}{2}}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}(1)$ decays, respectively.
