Containment of a gun-injected hydrogen plasma in the dc octopole has been studied. The plasma parameters are $n={10}^{8}\ensuremath{-}{10}^{11}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$, ${T}_{e}=1\ensuremath{-}5$ eV. The confinement of 300 Bohm times is observed. The plasma losses across the magnetic field are comparable to the support loss. In high-density regimes the loss process is found to be due to classical diffusion.
