Kapitza Resistance at the Liquid-Solid Interface in ³ He

Abstract

We have measured the Kapitza resistance at the liquid-solid interface in 3He for the temperature range between 50 mK and 250 mK. Our method avoids the problem caused by the very large thermal resistance of the liquid in order to determine the temperature on the liquid side of the interface. We found that the Kapitza resistance has a rather low value, with a temperature dependence being inversely proportional to T3 according to the acoustic mismatch theory.
