A new scheme is introduced for extracting the natural resonance frequencies of a radar target from a measured response. The method is based on the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">E</tex> -pulse technique and is shown to be relatively insensitive to random noise and to estimates of modal content. Verification of the technique is accomplished by comparing the natural frequencies extracted from the measured responses of a thin cylinder and a circular loop with those obtained from theory. The applicability of the technique to low- <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Q</tex> targets is also demonstrated, using the measured response of a scale model aircraft.
