Abstract

The origin of the dietary restrictions with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOl's) is explored. A physiologic and pharmacodynamic description of monoamine oxidase, its activity, and its inhibition is given. Characteristics of procarbazine as an MA01 are reviewed. The conclusion is reached that the dietary restrictions with procarbazine are of minor clinical significance. The tyramine content of various foods and drinks is listed.
