On microscale, the absolute configurations and conformations of organic molecules in solution can be determined with the title method, provided that appropriate derivatizing reagents are available. Aldehydes 1 – 3 have proved to be suitable for derivatizing primary amines, even if these also contain hydroxyl groups. The sign of the split CD curves of the derivatized diamines yields the correct sign of the dihedral angle between the CN and CO bonds.
