Temperature, concentration of species, and velocity in jets, flames, and shock tubes are obtained by means of modern diagnostic techniques utilizing lasers. It is shown that neutral as well as ionized species concentration and temperature are measurable utilizing those techniques. The nonintrusive character of the optical probes permits its application to chemically reacting flow fields. Furthermore, the instantaneous and simultaneous character of the experimental data obtained permit the derivation of correlation and cross-correlation parameters in addition to the turbulent intensity.
