PRIMARY HODGKIN'S DISEASE OF THE LUNG

Abstract

THE INCIDENCE of pulmonary involvement in Hodgkin's disease varies in percentage among different communities and clinics. Falconer and Leonard¹reviewed the literature to 1936, and their tabulation of 125 cases of Hodgkin's disease collected from various reports in this country and abroad showed pulmonary involvement in 47 cases, 37.6 per cent of the total. Of 29 cases of Hodgkin's disease studied by these authors, 9 revealed clinical or pathologic evidence of pulmonary involvement. <h3>PATHOLOGIC ASPECTS</h3> In many reports of cases of pulmonary Hodgkin's disease that were reviewed, definite proof was given of the primary or secondary nature of the lesion; however, one can easily come to the conclusion that a large majority are of the secondary type.²It is evident that the primary type is rare, although Moolten³in his most extensive review of the subject stated that the incidence of the primary type is as high
