Hydrogen bonding research has always been one of the areas where IR spectroscopy has been the main experimental method used. Inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonds can be distinguished by studying the IR spectra of the product in different solvents. The distinction between the inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonds is especially interesting for structure determination, but when solubility problems are encountered, this method cannot be used. We present a study of the molecule NN'dihydroxyethyldithiooxamide (NN'DHEDTO) in the solid state by means of FT-IR at different temperatures, where the inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonds present are distinguished in the solid state, and where some of the properties of the hydrogen bond are demonstrated clearly.
