The Automatic Generation of Test Data

Abstract

One of the major time-consuming activities in a software project is the construction of test data. A major aim of testing research is to automate this process by means of software tools. This paper reviews the progress that has been made towards achieving that aim. It poses a number of questions which future researchers in automatic testing will have to answer.
