Abstract

Scattering lengths for elastic collisions between zero-energy positrons and atoms of hydrogen and helium have been calculated, using Kohn's variational method together with trial functions which make explicit allowance for the correlation between the incident positron and the atomic electrons and which depend upon three exponential parameters as well as a number of linear parameters.
