Coupling Reactions of Terminal Acetylenes with Ruthenium Complexes Containing the Ortho-Metalated Ligand 2,6-(PPh<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>3</sub>

Reactions of RuCl(PPh3)(PCP) (PCP = 2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3) with PhC⋮CH and HC⋮CC(OH)Ph2 gave the unusual coupling products RuCl(PPh3)(η4-PhCHC-2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3) and RuCl(PPh3)(η4-Ph2C(OH)CHC-2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3), respectively. Dehydration was observed in the coupling reactions of RuCl(PPh3)(PCP) with HC⋮CC(OH)PhMe and HC⋮C-cyclo-C6H10(OH). Thus, the coupling products RuCl(PPh3)(η4-CH2CPhCHC-2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3) and RuCl(PPh3)(η4-cyclo-C6H9-CHC-2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3) were obtained from the reactions of RuCl(PPh3)(PCP) with HC⋮CC(OH)PhMe and HC⋮C-cyclo-C6H10(OH), respectively. Treatment of [Ru(PMe3)2(PCP)]BF4 with PhC⋮CH produced [Ru(PMe3)2(η4-PhCHC-2,6-(PPh2CH2)2C6H3)]BF4.
