Abstract 1,3-Benzodithiolylium fluoroborate (I) was synthesized in excellent yields by the action of hydrofluoroboric acid on 2-alkoxy- and 2-alkylthio-1,3-benzodithioles and by the action of trityl fluoroborate on 1,3-benzodithiole (VI). The fluoroborate I reacted with cycloheptatriene to give tropylium fluoroborate and VI.
