Effects of epoetin alfa on blood transfusions and postoperative recovery in orthopaedic surgery

Abstract

Epoetin alfa increases perioperative Hb concentration in mild-to-moderately anaemic patients and thus reduces transfusion requirements. Patients receiving blood transfusions require a longer hospitalization than non-transfused patients.
