Chromosome studies have been attempted on all late abortions, stillbirths, and neonates coming to necropsy in Edinburgh over a 1-year period. Results were obtained in 153 cases and of these 7·2% had chromosome abnormalities. It is suggested that chromosome studies should become a routine part of the perinatal necropsy.
