Perinatal Autopsy

Perinatal Autopsy is a specialized postmortem examination conducted on a fetus or newborn infant that died during the perinatal period—typically defined as from 20 weeks of gestation to 28 days after birth—to determine the cause of death, identify congenital abnormalities, and evaluate developmental disorders distinct from autopsies performed on older children or adults.
