Shocked OH within a supernova remnant

Abstract

Shocked clouds containing subthermally excited OH have been discovered within the IC 443 supernova remnant. The shocked material has velocity widths greater than 40 km/s, and OH/H I abundance ratios between 600 billionths and 4 millionths.
