Abstract

Policy-based network management is a new solution set that enables business-critical applications to perform at specific levels for specific users. It implements a set of rules and policies that further an organization's business objectives by dictating how users, applications, and organizations can access and use network resources. At first, this paper describes a variety of difficulties for today's network managers. Then the policy model and a kind of policy server architecture are presented. The benefits and drawbacks of this paradigm are also mentioned. Some related standards and products are introduced, and the future trend is estimated.
