Manifold applications of the Green's function concept to surface acoustic wave devices are reviewed. The state-of-the-art field calculations are presented together with a newly formulated dynamic piezoelectric element factor. Two- and three-dimensional calculations within the electrostatic- and piezoelectric limits are considered. SAW structures with a finite number of electrodes as well as periodic transducers are analyzed. The concept of periodic-dynamic-dyadic Green's functions is introduced. This concept leads to a dynamic piezoelectric element factor as a generalization of the element factor in the electrostatic limit. It is known that the Floquet theorem combined with dual series, as applied to periodic structures, generally leads to ill-conditioned numerical calculations. It is shown that the application of the proposed periodic Green's functions eminently improves the results.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
