Searching for Solutions

Abstract

This article describes an alternative model of nursing home consultation. Using concepts from solution-focused therapy, the mental health consultant works with the nursing home staff and the families of residents to decrease residents' problematic behaviors. The purpose of this approach is to expand the repertoire of effective strategies used by staff and families. The article summarizes the theoretical approach, describes the consultation model, and discusses predictable obstacles to nursing home consultation.
