Abstract

The excitation and emission spectra of several thermographic phosphors, europium-doped yttrium oxide (Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/:Eu/sup 3+/), europium-doped yttrium vanadate (YVO/sub 4/: Eu/sup 3+/), europium-doped barium phosphate (Ba/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/: Eu/sup 2+/), gadolinium-doped yttrium oxide (Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/: Gd), and praseodymium-doped yttrium oxysulfide (Y/sub 2/O/sub 2/S: Pr), have been measured as a function of temperature. The charge transfer (C-T) absorption bands for each phosphor were studied for spectral shifts and broadening. Of these particular thermophosphors, europium-doped yttrium oxide, europium-doped yttrium vanadate, and europium-doped barium phosphate show significant change in absorption band spectral position and broadening at elevated temperatures.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
