Abstract

DNA-RNAhybridization experiments show that transcription of the gal operon is regulated by cyclic AMP as well as inducer.Cyclic AMP stimulates ga2 mRNA synthesis and does not affect its half-life.Mutants unable to make cyclic AMP synthesize gal mRNA only after the nucleotide is added.Mutants lacking a protein required for cyclic AMP action do not make gal mRNA.We conclude that lac and gal transcription is similarly controlled by cyclic AMP.
