Job satisfaction of logistics managers : Female versus male perspectives

Abstract

This study examines the differences between the job satisfaction of men and women in the transportation industry. 500 male and 500 female transportation/logistics managers were contacted to participate in the study via independent systematic random sampling; 146 women (29.2%) and 155 (31.0%) men responded by completing and returning survey instruments. Female logisticians tend to be younger, have fewer 4-year degrees, and earn significantly less than their male counterparts. Results also indicate that both male and female respondents are reasonably well satisfied with their jobs. However, many more female than male respondents believed that their career advancement is hindered by a so called glass ceiling or limiting of their ability to move to higher levels of management. Other results and implications are discussed.
